What does XP level help with?

During army march each level of hero will add 200 unit capacity to the march.

Commander skill of Hero auto-upgrades by 5 level for every 20 XP levels of hero.

Skill slot 1 unlocks at level 25 XP level.
Skill slot 2 unlocks at level 38 XP level.

From level 20 you unlock Hero talent tree which provides talent point every 2 level to adding a talent to improve Hero further.

Level 50 unlocks option to get talent “Strength in Numbers” which enables Hero speciality such that you can improve synergy of Heros for better troop bonuses.

How many levels of Hero XP are there?

There are in total currently 120 levels of Hero XP.
Which is controlled by the level of Tavern in your Citadel maxing out at level 26. Increases limit by 5 every level of Tavern.
Thus, you won’t get all Talents enabled so select based on your Hero specialty.

How much XP is required to level up a Hero?

This keeps increasing per level with following pattern increasing the requirement:

Formula is X+Y where X is what limit was on previous level and Y is new-addition from following table:

Lvl 1, X = 500 XP, Y = 0 XP
Lvl 2, Y = 500 XP
Lvl 3, Y = 1K XP
Lvl 4, Y = 1.5K XP
Lvl 5, Y = 2K XP
Lvl 6 to 10, Y = 3K XP
Lvl 11 to 19, Y = 4K XP
Lvl 20 to 29, Y = 5K XP
Lvl 30 to 39, Y = 6K XP
Lvl 40 to 49, Y = 8K XP
Lvl 50 to 59, Y = 10K XP
Lvl 60 to 69, Y = 15K XP
Lvl 70 to 79, Y = 20K XP
Lvl 80 to 89, Y = 25K XP
Lvl 90 to 99, Y = 30K XP
Lvl 100 to 109, Y = 35K XP
Lvl 110 to 119, Y = 40K XP

How do hero get XP?

When heroes in march fight against tribes with stamina usage they get XP equally to all hero in that march. Amount of XP is based on level of tribe multiply by 500.
Some heroes have minor talent skills to get 5% or 10% XP per battle for that march.
Using XP books which can be collected in exploration missions or events.

What the recommended level to take a Hero?

At least lvl 25 for gathering hero such that you can have that extra gathering skill.
- Requires 893,500 XP in total.
At least lvl 38 for temporary hero in march to fill the gap with all skill unlocked at base level.
- Requires 2,518,000 XP in total.
At least lvl 50 for main heroes in main march such that speciality is unlocked and provide maximum 180% troop bonus via synergy.
- Requires 5,046,000 XP in total.

Best is to max out, not possible for everyone right away (I have not maxed any of my heroes yet).

My estimates based on formulas above it requires about 80 million XP.
