Guide to Optimal Build
By Farwalker
OK, I’ll start. I came close to reaching my dream build in this last run. Team is:
- CeleStorm – Battle Commander, Reflective Retribution, Lucky Hits.
- ThunderGust – Hyper-Kinetic Reflector, Defend, Solar Fury.
- PyroPaws – Rage Box, Cull the Weak, Malice, Gato-Rage.
The bolded starting gear is what you’ll use to get you through the early game. You’ll keep Reflective Retribution in play and will probably want to pick up a second one. The idealized endgame build looks like this (bold text denotes requirements rather than nice-to-haves):
- CeleStorm: Battle Commander 3+, Battle Commander 3+, Malice 2+, Gato-Rage 2+.
- ThunderGust: Solar Fury 5, Reflective Retribution any rank, Lucky Hits 3+ (5 is better), Lucky Hits 3+ OR, if you can’t get a second LH3+, a second Reflective Retribution.
- PyroPaws: Rage Box 5, Gato-Rage 2+ (ideally x3).
How does it play?
Every fight will open with Rage x60 on all three characters. Pop Malice to get that up to 120, then slam home two shots of Reflective Retribution, or if you’ve got two copies, four. The crit chance on the Lucky Hits are independent, so in a perfect world you’ll attack and get a total of four crits- LH1 and 2 aren’t really worth the slot that you’d get from a second RR, because you’re fishing for crits to bulk out your armor with Battle Commander and LH at 60% four times is better than 60% and 30% twice each.
For every total rank of BC you have on your team, a crit gives you a free shot with Solar Fury in addition to bulking out your defence. This build absolutely bullies enemies- the only encounters that actually got turns were Mine! Mine! Mine!, where I had to take the build offline because they’d steal the rage, and Torridon.
Upgrade strategies
You don’t need Solar Fury 5 until endgame- everything before Torridon dies to Solar Fury 4 if you’ve got the rest of the build online.
Malice upgrades are just an energy efficiency thing and they’re not really important after you get to 2 (your turn uses at most 7 energy, at that point- Malice + 4x Reflective Retribution).
Reflective Retribution does not need upgrading, really- the extra block is nice, but you mostly just want to get hits in to trigger crit chains.
Battle Commander upgrades are great value, you don’t really need more than two copies total so just upgrade as you can.
Get Rage Box to 5 as fast as possible.
Lucky Hit is, as far as we’re concerned, a 1/3/5- 1 and 2 have 30% chance, 3-4 60%, 5 is beautiful with 100% chance.
Gato-Rage 1s should combine as quickly as possible, because you lose nothing from doing so. Don’t combine 2s or higher until you don’t have enough slots for everything because of how combining works.
ThunderGust wants to be getting the greatest total values of crit chance, defined as “multiply Lucky Hits percent total by number of Reflective Retributions”. LH1x2 with RRx1 is a total of 120%, so LH3 + RRx2 is better at 240%.
It’s probably worth keeping your spare LH and RR in your inventory so you can pick and mix as you upgrade your Lucky Hits to give you the maximal chance at all times. Also worth noting is that if you’re using Refresh potions- you shouldn’t need to, except against Ragnarath- 2xRR is better because the potion will give you two extra shots instead of 1 (unless you got the God-Tier luck and have a pair of maxed Lucky Hits kicking around).
