Explanation of Modular Buildings
Research
Modular buildings are a distinctive feature in Foundry. They are large structures that serve different purposes. They can aid progression or enhance the visual appearance of factories.
To begin using modular buildings, you must first research them. The required technology is located in the research tree, just before the research for Science Pack IV. This technology provides everything needed to start constructing modular buildings.
Modular Building Planner
The modular building planner is found in the handheld section of your crafting menu. This is where you assign modules to your building, as shown previously. Selecting each red node brings up a dropdown menu to choose which module to add. Currently, there are limited choices for modular buildings. You will either fully construct the building or partially build it, but you never have to choose between modules for each slot.
Each modular building has a maximum amount of each module type, shown in the top left box with minimum and maximum values. The minimum value is the least number of that module required to confirm and begin construction.
I suggest your first modular building should be the Radio Tower. This is important for obtaining firmarlite bars, which are vital for progression. However, the Radio Tower has an associated time requirement when repairing the space station in orbit, so it’s better to construct it sooner to get a head start on those upgrades.
Construction Materials / Warehouses
Modular buildings require construction materials. Each module you add costs a certain amount of these materials. The materials must be crafted inside an assembler and then loaded into a construction warehouse. If the materials are not in a warehouse, the drone ports cannot access them.
Each construction warehouse can hold up to 25,000 construction materials. However, you can have multiple warehouses if you need a larger supply of materials for bigger projects.
Ship Ports
There are two types of ship ports involved in constructing modular buildings: transport ship ports and construction ship ports.
Transport ship ports have several uses, but in this case, their job is to transport construction materials from your construction warehouse to the modular building site. Each trip carries up to 250 construction materials. For longer trips to farther bases, you may want to increase the number of transport ship ports.
Once the construction materials are delivered, the construction ship port will begin working on building the structure. The progress is shown as a percentage in the bottom left of the UI if you left-click the modular structure’s base again. When the progress finishes, you should have a fully functional structure.
Be sure to connect your new structure to your high-voltage grid at the connection point set during configuration, if necessary. The same applies to both drone ports – a high-voltage connection is needed for both transport and construction ship ports to function.
