Grouping for Combat + Clan Advantages
Having a clan can increase your exp gain if your clan has the Respawn or the Bullseye upgrade (Bullseye only applies for archers). Housing doesn’t help with combat because it only affects skilling exp.
Having a combat group is worse for regular enemies, because exp is given based on how much damage you dealt to the enemy. This means that if you go over how much health they have, you don’t get any exp for the extra damage dealt. Time taken for the enemy to respawn also makes you lose out on more exp (this can be reduced with a potion of resurrection and Get Up! (clan upgrade)).
Loot is only dropped once per enemy, so you also lose out on more loot if you’re grouping with someone else (it doesn’t really make a difference for alts, as you’re getting all of the loot either way). You can choose to use an alt as a meat shield if you have the Strength in numbers (clan) and Teamwork (personal) upgrades, but for Strength in numbers to work, you need to be in the same clan. This gives the account dealing all of the damage more exp but it prevents the alt from gaining money or exp.
You also have to stay online for group combat because otherwise the group will be disbanded. If you’re fighting in the lair, you may want to join a group, but fighting solo works fine.
For bosses, you’ll want a group because bosses have a lot of hp and deal a lot of damage. Doing them solo is possible, but it is more risky, takes longer, and uses up more food. A lot of players pay for pages (dropped by bosses) in combat-lfg, this means that they help you defeat the bosses and send you any loot they get except pages (untradable). The levels required to boss are pinned in questions
If you’re selling keys or using an alt as a meat shield, you can equip a common crossbow or staff and metal armour without anything else, which would prevent you from dealing any damage, as the accuracy would be negative.
Useful Tips
Weapon tips
- Each weapon has a different attack style which is strong against enemies with that weakness.
- Matching weakness and attack style increases max hit and accuracy by 20%.
- The 2 handed weapons generally deal more damage but you cant use an offhand so they have lower defence.
Making gold tips
- Mine coal/titanium.
- Buy coal/titanium ores and smelt bars to sell on player market (need T3 smelting magic).
- Buy mats and brew swiftness pots to sell on player market (helps if you have a brewing spoon).
- Grind vamps for gems/dfruit/chests/keys to sell on market.
