Gameplay FAQ
Wind Fury
Hallucination vs Nightmare vs Dominion
Hallucination is the default and most popular set due to its high crit rate, which provides consistent damage output. It is considered the most reliable set out of the three and is recommended for most players due to its simplicity.
Nightmare set offers significant damage, as well as cooldown reduction and mana regeneration when in boundless state. This set excels in burst DPS but has a lower overall DPS potential. To optimize this set, you will need to adjust your stat distribution. Instead of going full swift with crit on the necklace, you should aim for a 50/50 split between swift and crit, while setting your pet to prioritize crit. With this build, mana management will be the least of your concerns, as reaching the boundless state will help regenerate your mana without significantly hindering your DPS.
The Dominion set has the highest DPS potential among the three sets, but it is also the most challenging to master. This set requires a spammy playstyle, which makes mana management crucial. You will need to equip additional Focus runes and ensure you have a competent support. Consuming mana food may also help alleviate your mana issues.
Overall, while Hallucination is the recommended set for most players due to its reliability, the Nightmare and Dominion sets offer unique advantages for those seeking burst damage or high potential, respectively. Each set requires careful consideration of stat distribution and playstyle adjustments to maximize their effectiveness.
Why is Keen Blunt Weapon inefficient for Wind Fury?
Wind Fury provides crit dmg, 36% assuming your attack speed is 140%. On top of the 36% crit dmg you get from Wind Fury, two of your main damaging skills have the Thunderbolt tripod. This tripod adds an additional 140%-210% crit dmg to Piercing Wind and 95-180% crit dmg to Rage.
What’s the best stat distribution?
All of them are very close, and are mostly up to preference. The more swift, the more pressure to get skills on cooldown to maintain DPS, and the more mana issues you might run into from spamming. The full swift Hallucination build holds a lot of damage consistency over 50/50 Nightmare though. Generally, you get less overall crit chance in Nightmare, and boundless state ping pong makes it less consistent damage wise, but you’re mana issue free.
In Hallucination, if you play 5×3+1 with Adrenaline as your +1, it’s highly recommended to use a crit earring. If Adrenaline is your +2, or by the time elixirs arrive in the West, a crit ring is suitable. You can also swap that crit accessory for a swift one if your party has an extra crit synergy.
That being said, the higher ceiling build is Dominion because of the extra cooldown reduction it provides, but only by a tiny margin, and it requires a lot more DPS uptime to be on par with other options. The more crit you get away with, the higher its ceiling, but you need to prioritize your Awakening’s cooldown over anything else.
As you can see, Wind Fury has tons of options that are all very much viable and up to preference, party compatibility, and comfort. If you have the opportunity, testing different variants in Trixion before committing to a specific one is highly recommended.
How can I deal with mana?
Wind Fury has tons of build variants that have different ways of dealing with mana. The default build in this guide is the one that makes mana the easiest to handle. It’s not the ceiling damage build.
Removing some Galewind runes for Focus runes is a good first option to reduce mana consumption.
Mana food is a good way to combat the mana issues, albeit an expensive (or time consuming) one over a long time.
For comfort content like Guardian Raids, some people will go for a MP recovery bracelet with one stat, but we do advise against “chasing” MP Recovery on a swift/crit bracelet. It is simply not worth paying a ton of pheons and gold over.
You can also trade the damage stability of Hallucination for a one stop mana solving set like Nightmare and just not worry about mana at all, but unless you have very high uptime, your damage will perform worse damage-wise on average.
What level CDR gems do I need to have a comfy rotation?
Generally speaking, there is no breakpoint with CDR gems on Wind Fury. If you are serious about your character though, you’ll want to try to run full 7s, and eventually aim for having 4 lvl 9s for your 4 main spenders.
The reason is very simple, whenever executing your damage rotation, you’ll quickly notice that the bottleneck will be Piercing Wind (and your other spenders) coming off-cooldown a tiny bit after you finish your rotation (2-4s). The lower you bring that down, the lower downtime you’re gonna face when playing. However it is not always realistic to try to have 0 downtime, bosses move and do mechs, which is why it isn’t a major requirement.
You can test this in Trixion and see where your own comfort zone falls, but from our testing, lvl 9s are the sweet spot you want to aim for. The more the better.
Whirlpool VS Wiping Wind after PTR
The recent PTR gave Wiping Wind weak point level 1. This alteration shifts the decision between Whirlpool and Wiping Wind from one based on the utility of the skills provided to one based on personal comfort. Wiping Wind provides more damage and stagger, but it does come at the cost of increased mana consumption. On the other hand, Whirlpool inflicts less damage and stagger but requires less mana, thanks to the Magick Control tripod. Furthermore, its cooldown is similar in length to Tornado, making it easier to proc Conviction Judgement. To sum up, if you’re looking to maximize your damage output, opting for Wiping Wind is not a bad idea.
Drizzle
What does 6:2, 5:3, and 4:4 mean?
The numbers represent the amount of Weather and Umbrella skills you’re running, 6:2 means your build consists of 6 Weather skills and 2 Umbrella skills
What’s the big difference between 6:2, 5:3 and 4:4?
6:2 is the standard build that produces the most consistent damage output, because Drizzle only impacts Weather skills.
5:3 is an attempt at solving an underlying issue of Drizzle: low weak points. You use piercing wind for its 2 weak points damage and the decent damage it deals, but your Drizzle engraving doesn’t boost it at all.
4:4 is a very niche build nowadays. Although it is a viable build, it usually does not perform as well as the recommended 6:2 or 5:3 variants due to being much more clunkier to pull off. Piercing Wind and Wind Gimlet both are slow with very long cooldown. If missed, the dps will drop much more than if missing a skill on the other builds.. Adrenaline is also more difficult to maintain with those longer cd. If you manage to pull it off however, it can perform just as well as 6:2 and 5:3.
It is recommended for people to test this build alongside other variants fully before committing to it. 4:4 Should be picked solely for the gameplay experience.
Why is Conviction and Judgment taken?
Conviction Judgment is taken for the cooldown reduction to better align your Rainstorm+Strong Wind and Scorching Sun+Wiping Wind combo. The idea behind this is you proc conviction judgment with Tornado+Whirlpool for Scorching Sun and Wiping Wind, doing this will reduce their cooldown and let you cast them earlier within Sun Shower the second time. This is because you want Scorching Sun+Wiping Wind to be up by the time you fill up and use Sun Shower again.
What level gems do I need to fit two Scorching Suns into a Sun Shower window?
Level 5 gems are enough but higher level gems will make it more comfy.
What are the spec breakpoints for Drizzle?
The spec needed to fill up your identity on Drizzle is relatively low. Even with level 4 identity generation tripods and double purple wealth runes, you can easily fill up identity using the abilities Rainstorm, Strong Wind, and Whirlpool. In short, you do not need to be concerned about how much spec you have to charge your identity gauge (Assuming you go full spec).
How mobile is Drizzle?
Drizzle being a spec build makes it have a low default move speed. However, there are a few tools to help with that:
Spread’s 2nd line tripod gives you 20% move speed for 4 seconds, which is a comfy burst of speed pretty often. If you do take it.
During identity, her space bar becomes a combo which lets you dodge and reposition a lot easier.
Strong wind does have a move speed tripod, but you’re giving up cooldown reduction for it, which makes it harder to charge your identity. It’s an option though not recommended.
Can I run Adrenaline 1 on Drizzle?
Drizzle is generally crit starved, so while going Adrenaline 1 and Cursed Doll 3 is a possibility and a higher damage ceiling in most cases, it can feel bad to play because of white numbers, especially if your character isn’t fully decked out.
Going Adrenaline 1 starts being more of a serious optimization if you get a really good crit chance bracelet (Precise effect for example). When we get Elixirs, the crit chance elixir set will also provide a comfy 7% crit chance overall, which makes it easier to run that kind of setup.
