Lost Ark – Reaper FAQ

Gameplay FAQ

General

Why play Reaper?

Reaper is your archetypal backstabbing assassin class, with extremely fast-paced movement and mobility unmatched by any other class in Lost Ark. She can be played as a hard hitting sustained burst DPS as Lunar Voice, or as a high APM, high DPS piano gameplay class as Hunger. Keep in mind, you will perpetually chase the boss’s back with your tools as Reaper’s attacks are mostly back attacks. If this is the kind of thrill you seek, then it’s time to pick up the dagger.

What are the Pros and Cons of being a Reaper?

Pros

Great mobility

Reaper has access to Nightmare and Distortion, which basically lets you dance circles around the boss for your damage uptime and makes getting those positionals a walk in the park.

Decent synergy

Reaper comes with 12% defense shred, which is a fairly decent synergy compared to others, and also somewhat rare compared to the other synergies in the game.

Best counter in the game

Nightmare is a ridiculous counter that has fast startup, can be thrown from range, and the follow-up teleport from behind is also another counter. Using Distortion afterwards also means you have zero downtime on the back.

Straightforward

  • Reaper has an easy to understand playstyle.
  • Lunar Voice builds gauge with Green and Purple skills, uses identity with the gauge and does damage with Red skills.
  • Hunger rotates Red skills with Green and Purple skills.

Fun and unique playstyle

While this may be quite a subjective point, people very much enjoy Reaper’s fast playstyle and their flashy animations. The class is generally well-designed and the rotations are fluid and intuitive.

Cons

Extremely squishy

Even with insane mobility, there are times where you just happen to stand in the intersection of venn diagrams of AoE, and well… pop goes the Reaper.

Positionals are mandatory

Reaper is an Entropy class and their most damaging skill has a tripod that specifically boosts back attack damage. Your damage will fall off extremely hard if you do not hit back attacks.

Requires a decent amount of investment

Applies more to Lunar Voice than Hunger, but nonetheless she wants a lot of runes from horizontal content or from guardian raids that may not be necessarily available to newer players who have just recently started playing the game.

Mediocre or subpar stagger and destruction

Reapers don’t have the greatest stagger and destruction in the game. While Hunger fares much better in this department, it still isn’t as good as other classes. They have to make up for their lack of utility with Whirlwind Grenades and Destruction Bombs.

Tripod reliant

Reapers very much want tripods to do well, and many of them are high priority targets for upgrades.

Unfairly treated in pugs

Reapers will have a difficult time finding parties that will accept them, as they have a strong stigma against them for their general squishiness and tendency to die.

What are the key habits of a good Reaper player?

Reading up and cultivating good knowledge of basic boss patterns in a raid to maintain back attack uptime.

Basic understanding of the range of Red skills. They have medium range and thus you can afford to damage the boss even if there is a pattern that prevents you from being close to the boss.

Mastery of the mobility tools at your disposal to keep uptime on bosses and keeping yourself alive. The boss will not always stand still for you, you have to create your own opportunities.

Developing a proactive playstyle to take advantage of damage windows by observing boss patterns. Knowing when a boss is going to stand still and get staggered, etc.

Greed for DPS within reason.

Lunar Voice

Playstyle

Lunar Voice is a gauge builder/spender sustained burst DPS class that takes a decent amount of investment in order to comfortably play. Her goal is to generate gauge with Purple and Green skills for her Persona identity, and use Red skills while in the Persona state. She requires careful deliberation with her damage abilities, as missing a heavy hitting Red skill is catastrophic to her damage output.

While the idea of the gameplay is simplistic, the learning curve is quite high, as getting used to several of her skills and her identity that forces a lot of movement can be quite the daunting challenge. You will need to be dextrous with your hands to control her forced movement in your favor.

Hunger

Overview

Providing some of the fastest gameplay Lost Ark has to offer, Hunger Reaper features skills with low cooldowns, high mobility, and most notably the ability to counter a boss from the back with their identity skill Nightmare. Their skill set allows them to weave in and out of combat effortlessly while maintaining high damage uptime.

Players will prioritize filling their identity gauge so that they can enter their Chaos mode. In this mode they will gain 15% crit rate, 10% movement speed, and 10% attack speed. The Hunger engraving itself will additionally grant 3/5/8% crit rate and 12/18/25% attack power when in Chaos mode . Failure to hit a target with Green skills or cast any Purple skill within 15 seconds will cause the Chaos gauge to expire and need to be refilled.

This build is made for high uptime, consistent DPS utilizing their plethora of mobility skills.
