Mech Engineer – How to Beat Giants in Surface Combat

Bosses in Open Combat Guide

General Build Strategies

For boss battles, you need high, steady damage. Bosses have a lot of health and quickly regenerating armor. Your team setup is important. You should have at least two repair mechs to handle damage. For the first and third boss, it’s good to have two or three mechs with double C-rams to stop missiles. Strong shields with CPU upgrades are necessary. Shield modules can help against operarius, but they’re optional if you have a good chaff-clearing mech.

For weapons, cannons and railguns are good for high damage against bosses. They can damage through armor. For cannons, choose between max damage shards and rocket-assisted, with kinetic rate of fire upgrades. Railguns work well with projectile acceleration for long-range attacks.

Lasers, teslas, and gatlings can do a lot of damage if set up right, but you need to remove the boss’s armor first. Explosives aren’t as useful, except for heavy rockets and particle emitters. For these, use shards with max damage and no fire rate increase. Don’t use thermal weapons except maybe plasma launchers, as they’re too short-range and dangerous.

Titanus Araneus

This boss can quickly destroy your mech if it gets close. Many of its attacks can be blocked, but don’t let it bite your mechs. Even a few bites can take down a well-armored castle.

Try to keep the boss far away. First, shoot at its legs to slow it down. Then, focus on its core. It’s good to have melee mechs because the boss can grab your team with strong tentacles. C-Rams are very helpful because this boss often fires missiles at your team.

The particle emitter doesn’t pull this boss closer as much as others, so it’s a good weapon to use. Shard weapons work well against the legs.

Titanus Centipeda

This boss is different from others. It doesn’t have strong direct attacks except for energy waves, which strong shields can easily block. The main danger is its fast movement and ability to surround your team while creating many operarius.

Mechs that clear chaff are very important here. Have one or two of these, or use mechs with shield modules. The fight gets much harder in infested zones or nests because these make the operarius tougher.

Use weapons with fast-moving shots. You can only damage the boss’s head, and it moves very quickly. Often tell your mechs to focus on the head, not the body. Many shield modules can help because they can handle the operarius while you attack the head.

Don’t use particle emitters if possible. They pull the boss closer, making it harder to attack and possibly causing friendly fire. Keep moving to avoid being surrounded.

Titanus Monstrum

This boss can be easy or very dangerous. It doesn’t move and has a big shield like Colubra’s. Use kinetic weapons, especially ones that can pierce through, until the shield is down.

While the shield is up, it shoots bullets at you. These aren’t too dangerous unless your armor is weak. Focus on killing nearby Colubra, but stay in one area. Railguns can shoot through the shield to hit Colubra behind it. This is important because Colubra shoot energy balls from far away.

When the shield drops, the boss fires a big light beam that damages everything and overheats your mechs. Build your mechs with good cooling to handle this. Stacked shields with CPU upgrades help a lot here. There’s not much cover, so be prepared.

While it’s using the beam, meteors will create operarius constantly. Keep attacking the boss and use artillery strikes to clear operarius. The boss is weakest at this time. Energy weapons like tesla with shards do a lot of damage, but be careful with particle emitters to avoid friendly fire.

C-Rams are useful because the boss sometimes fires many missiles like Titanus Araneus.

This fight is about lasting longer than the boss. Do as much damage as you can to end the fight quickly. If it goes on too long and you don’t handle the operarius and Colubra, you might lose mechs and pilots.

I hope this was helpful to you!
