Odin: Valhalla Rising – Beginners Guide

Starter Guide

Progression Priorities

Leveling & Gear

  • Prioritize Main Quests until Lv. 50 to unlock all core systems.
  • Enhance gear only to +3–+5 during early progression; crafting Rare gear becomes efficient from Lv. 30–35.
  • Dismantle unused gear consistently for crafting and enhancement materials.

Runes & Sealstones

  • Rune system unlocks 3 slots at Lv. 30, 3 more at Lv. 40, and 3 at Lv. 60 (9 total).
  • Equip Runes for passive stats: ATK%, Crit, HP, etc.
  • Sealstones offer passive stat boosts and powerful set effects – combine for synergy.

Summon Systems (Avatar, Weapon, Mount)

  • Equipped Summons grant direct stat bonuses (e.g., ATK SPD, %ATK, EXP Gain).
  • All collected summons contribute to Codex for permanent passive stat bonuses.
  • Weapon summons enhance damage; Avatar summons boost speed; Mounts offer mobility + utility.

Daily Progress Habits

  • Prioritize Town Quests and Feat objectives each day – these provide essential EXP, Codex progression, and upgrade materials. Weekly Dungeon entries should be used efficiently when they refresh.
  • Dismantle loot daily and craft regularly to stay ahead.
  • Check Codex progress to unlock and track passive bonuses.

Spending Priorities – Odin-Accurate

  • Use Diamonds on inventory/storage expansion or other long-term Codex progression, but avoid costume/summon spending unless it’s part of a guaranteed step-up event or Codex set completion.
  • Avoid spending Diamonds on general banners unless they have guaranteed step-up mechanics.
  • Use Mileage Tokens to complete high-impact Codex entries (HP%, ATK%, Crit).

Duplicates are not wasted: they can support enhancement, Codex, or future merge systems.

Rune & Sealstone

Unlock Timeline & Slot Overview

  • Rune system unlocks in three phases:
    • Lv. 30: Unlocks 3 Rune slots
    • Lv. 40: Unlocks 3 additional slots (6 total)
    • Lv. 60+: Unlocks the final 3 slots (9 total)

Rune System Overview

  • Runes provide passive stat boosts like ATK%, Crit, HP, DEF, and MP Regen.
  • Runes are color-coded by stat role:
    • Red = Offense (ATK, Crit DMG, Skill DMG%)
    • Blue = Defense (HP%, DEF, Block Rate)
    • Green = Utility (Move SPD, MP Recovery, Skill CD Reduction)

Rune Usage & Optimization

  • Equip runes strategically based on class role and current Codex progress.
  • Lower rarity runes can be used to unlock Codex bonuses – even equipping temporarily helps.
  • Rune enhancement requires either duplicate runes or enhancement materials.
  • Some Rune slots may restrict types or colors depending on future class/rank limitations.

Unsure for Global – Rune color/slot restriction logic is verified in JP client but not yet fully documented in Global.

Sealstone System Overview

  • Sealstones are passive enhancers that don’t use active slots.
  • Provide flat stats and set bonuses when combined (e.g., 3x Fury = Crit DMG bonus).
  • Grades: Uncommon → Rare → Epic → Legendary → Mythic
  • Types: Attack / Defense / Support / Hybrid

Sealstone Strategy

  • Prioritize building partial sets early; full set bonuses scale stronger but aren’t required to gain base stats.
  • Equip highest grade available, but don’t hold lower-grade stones – they help in Codex and set bridging.
  • Combine stones with Codex goals to reach HP%, PvP Res, or DMG% milestones.

Codex Synergy

  • Equipping Runes and Sealstones even briefly registers them to the Codex.
  • Bonuses from Runes and Sealstones appear in Codex sections separately and stack with gear/summon sets.

Confirmed via JP screenshots and Global Codex menu layout.

Final Tips

  • Do not waste Rune/Sealstone enhancement materials on low-grade stones unless it contributes to Codex.
  • Plan Rune page layouts around class: e.g., Crit-heavy for Assassin, DEF/HP for Paladin.
  • Long-term: combine Rune & Sealstone planning with summon bonuses for stat synergy sets.

Summoning Systems

Odin has three main summon types:

  • Avatar Summons – Cosmetic skins that provide ATK SPD, Cast SPD, and passive stat bonuses.
  • Weapon Summons – Cosmetic “weapon skins” that grant %ATK, skill level boosts, and passive combat effects.
  • Mount Summons – Ground/flying mounts that improve movement and grant permanent passive stats via collections.

Only one of each type can be equipped at a time. All summons you own contribute to permanent Codex (Collection) bonuses, even when not equipped.

Avatar Summons – ATK SPD & Cast SPD Boosters

Equipped Effect: Provides direct bonuses to attack speed, skill cast speed, and some passive stats.

Highly effective for:

  • Combo-heavy DPS classes (Assassins, Rangers)
  • Classes needing animation fluidity (e.g., spellcasters)

Tier Bonuses – Equipped Effects (JP-Verified):

Rarity | ATK SPD | Cast SPD

  • Common | +5% | +3%
  • Uncommon | +15% | +5%
  • Rare | +18% | +7%
  • Heroic | +45% | +15%
  • Legendary | +65% | +22%
  • Mythic | +105% | +32%

Unsure for Global – These SPD values are not yet shown in the official global guide but are fully confirmed in JP client combat and tooltips.

Weapon Summons – %ATK, Skill Buffs, and Combat Effects

Equipped Effect: Grants %Total ATK, Skill Level increases, MP cost reduction, PvP damage bonuses, and occasionally random combat effects (e.g. invincibility, Crit DMG bursts).

Rarity | Bonus Types Example

  • Legendary | +20% Total Dmg, Skill MP -10%, PvP Dmg +9%
  • Mythic | +29% Total Dmg, Skill Lv+2, +Crit DMG% effect

Important Note: Weapon Summons are skins only. Your real weapon (gear slot) determines base ATK. Summon weapons act as multipliers and are especially effective for:

  • Any class with heavy skill scaling.

Unsure for Global – Global guide lists only flat ATK boost. JP confirms %ATK and skill-specific bonuses via tooltips.

Mount Summons – Movement & Stat Boosts

Ground Mounts:

  • Boost Movement Speed
  • Potion Recovery %
  • Skill Cooldown Reduction

Flying Mounts:

  • EXP Gain %
  • Skill DMG %
  • Elemental Resist
  • Glide Range

Mount Bonus Examples (JP):

Type| Bonus Stats

  • Epic Ground | +7% Potion Recovery, +5% Move Speed
  • Epic Flying | +3% EXP Gain, +2% Skill DMG, +5% Glide

Unsure for Global – Global source confirms movement bonuses only. JP client confirms full stat spread.

Codex (Collection) Bonus System

Permanent Bonuses (Passive): Each summoned item is stored in the Codex and contributes to bonus sets. You do not need to equip them – just owning adds the stats.

JP-Verified Tier Bonuses:

Tier | Bonus Examples

  • Common/Uncommon | HP, Potion Recovery %, EXP +1%, Dmg vs Normals
  • Rare | Crit Resist, HP %, Damage Reduction
  • Heroic+ | PvP Resist %, Skill DMG %, CD Reduction, Move SPD
  • Mythic | Crit Rate +8%, Skill DMG +5%, PvP Dmg +6%

Codex bonuses are account-wide and permanent. Prioritize filling sets, not just equipping your strongest.

Recommended Strategy

  • Focus on collection breadth – completing Codex sets is more impactful than targeting a single Mythic.
  • Use free daily summons consistently.
  • Save Mileage Tokens to fill out missing pieces.
  • Even Common and Uncommon summons have value in early and midgame.
  • Weapon Summons offer the best passive DPS boost for most classes.
  • Avatar SPD bonuses are irreplaceable for some class rotations.

Spending Priorities – Odin-Accurate

  • Avoid using Diamonds on general summon banners unless they offer significantly increased rates or guaranteed step-up rewards.
  • Prioritize spending Diamonds on permanent QoL upgrades like inventory/storage expansion and costume Codex progress.
  • Use Mileage Tokens strategically to:
    • Complete missing Codex entries for passive stats (HP%, ATK%, Crit, etc.)
    • Finish collection sets that unlock breakpoints, rather than chasing individual rarity

Duplicates are not wasted: they are useful for Rune enhancement, summon merges, or future systems that use excess copies.

PvP & PvE Core Systems

PvE Core Systems

Open World Combat

  • Monsters are found across multi-zone regions that scale in difficulty.
  • Normal mobs, Elites, and Bosses all drop:
    • EXP
    • Crafting materials
    • Gear (dismantle-worthy or Codex-valuable)
  • Field elites are often contested; avoid these areas during peak times unless in a party.

Weekly Dungeon Content

  • Dungeons are weekly-limited, not daily.
  • Includes:
    • Solo Dungeons
    • Party Dungeons
    • Elite Dungeons
  • Each dungeon provides unique currency or material types:
    • Skill Books, Gear, Enhancement Scrolls, Summon Tickets
  • Dungeon entries refresh weekly – spend them efficiently after planning.

World Bosses & Field Raids

  • Spawn at set times or global server milestones
  • Often drop high-tier crafting mats and Codex-valuable gear
  • You can participate in raid damage rankings – higher DPS = better loot tiers

Unsure for Global – Boss spawn timers and reward scaling systems vary slightly between Global and JP clients.

PvP Core Systems

Open World PK

  • PK (Player Kill) unlocks in contested maps and elite zones
  • PK drops karma (negative points) that can flag you as hostile
  • Killing flagged players does not penalize you
  • Karma loss can impact rewards and cause guard aggro in towns

Arena Mode

  • Asynchronous 1v1 Arena unlocked after early progression
  • You fight AI-controlled versions of other players’ builds
  • Weekly rankings provide:
    • Currency
    • Enhancement scrolls
    • Codex score contributions

Battle of Valhalla

  • Large-scale PvP war mode (Guild vs Guild)
  • Scheduled event with tower control mechanics and participation rewards
  • Performance contributes to guild rankings and territory control

Unsure for Global – Guild siege scaling and rank rewards may differ from JP seasonal rules.

PvE/PvP Reward Synergy

  • Dungeon and PvP rewards funnel into:
    • Summon tickets
    • Gear crafting mats
    • Enhancement scrolls
    • Codex unlock items
  • Weekly and seasonal rankings contribute to permanent Codex progress
  • Don’t over-enhance early gear – focus on Codex unlocking and stable Rare sets.
  • Save high enhancement materials for gear you plan to keep long-term.
  • Always preview gear upgrade paths in the crafting menu before using rare resources.
  • Use set effect pieces (when available) to unlock bonus damage, crit, or PvP defense.

Codex System Overview

What Is the Codex?

The Codex is a permanent progression system that tracks collected:

  • Summons (Avatar, Weapon, Mount)
  • Gear
  • Runes
  • Sealstones
  • Skill Books
  • Achievements (Feats)

Every eligible item that’s equipped or used at least once is registered in your Codex – and grants passive stats account-wide.

Types of Bonuses

Bonuses are grouped by tier, category, or set, and include:

  • HP %, ATK %, Crit Rate, Skill DMG %
  • EXP Gain %, Potion Efficiency, Elemental Resist
  • PvP Dmg / Res %, Block Rate, MP Recovery

These are applied passively even when you’re not wearing or equipping the item anymore.

Unlock Conditions

  • Codex unlocks early (around Lv. 10) and expands by region and item type.
  • Some Codex sets (e.g., Legendary Mounts) are gated behind collection thresholds or unlock levels.

Smart Use

  • Check if it can be submitted  into codex (might have to enhance it up to fill Codex slots) if not dismantle it.
  • Runes and Sealstones should be cycled through before feeding to enhance others.
  • Track completion bonuses in each Codex tab – prioritize filling low-rarity full sets early for fast stat returns.

Currency & Shops

Diamonds – Premium currency. Use for:

  • Inventory/storage expansion
  • Step-up banners (if confirmed)
  • High-value Codex progression only

Gold – General economy. Use for:

  • Enhancement
  • Crafting
  • Town Quest fees

Mileage Tokens – Earned from summons. Use to:

  • Fill in missing Codex entries
  • Exchange for specific summon types

Feat Coins – From Feats. Use at Feat Merchant (gear, mats, etc.)

Dungeon Currency – Earned weekly. Spent on:

  • Summon tickets
  • Enhancement scrolls
  • Codex filler gear

Key Merchants

  • Consumables Merchant – Potions, scrolls, and repair items
  • Enhancement Merchant – Scrolls, enhancement protectors
  • Skill Book Merchant – Purchase class-specific skill upgrades
  • Feat Merchant – Spends Feat coins on Codex-enhancing items
  • Exchange Merchant – Summon token trade-in shop

Smart Inventory Management

Dismantle vs. Keep

  • Always register gear in the Codex before dismantling or crafting.
  • Use the ‘Equip → Codex log → Dismantle’ loop to avoid wasting permanent stat gains.
  • Unused rare runes/sealstones/summons should be cycled through once to register Codex bonuses.

Inventory Cleanup Tips

  • Regularly check inventory for unregistered equipment, runes, and summon items.
  • Sort by “Not in Codex” or rarity (if available) to filter quickly.
  • Prioritize clearing space before weekly dungeon runs and summon events.

Material Flow Strategy

  • Don’t hold on to low-rank gear past Lv. 30 unless it contributes to Codex.
  • Use dismantle returns to enhance gear you actively use or to complete crafted sets.
  • Save high-grade duplicates for:
    • Rune/Sealstone enhancement
    • Future merge mechanics (JP-confirmed, Unsure for Global)

Efficiency Habits

  • Expand inventory with Diamonds early – long-term Codex and loot efficiency depends on space.
  • Avoid hoarding consumables or unverified set pieces – verify them in Codex or dismantle responsibly.

Daily Tasks & Smart Habits

Daily Routine Checklist

The following tasks should be prioritized daily for long-term progression.

Town Quests (Unlocked at Lv. 20)

  • Grant large EXP chunks, gold, and upgrade materials
  • Rotates based on region and character level
  • Complete all available tasks each day for consistent power growth
  • (Source: Town Quest Guide – Kakao)

Feat Objectives

  • Trackable under the Feat tab (character progression milestones)
  • Completing Feats grants Codex bonuses, gear, materials, and enhancement items
  • Example: Kill counts, crafting, enhancing gear, completing quests
  • (Source: Feats Guide – Kakao)

Activity Rewards (Weekly Dungeon Entries)

  • Odin does not feature daily dungeons – dungeon entries are weekly-limited
  • Prioritize efficient clearing when available to maximize material rewards
  • Spend them wisely near weekly reset or when most efficient for upgrades

Codex Tracking

  • After acquiring new gear, runes, summons, or pets:
  • Equip → log in Codex → dismantle or reuse
  • Check for completed collection bonuses under Codex tabs (Avatar, Weapon, Mount, Rune, Sealstone, Gear)

Smart Rotation Tips

  • Rotate Town Quests + Feats in the morning for quick EXP and Codex gains.
  • Avoid hoarding duplicate runes, seals, or summons – equip them to log Codex before recycling.
  • Use enhancement scrolls and dismantling flow to power up gradually – avoid rushing upgrades at the start of the week unless you have clear goals.
  • Use Auto-pathing to complete low-effort quests (especially town objectives) during busy IRL moments.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Ignoring Town Quests in favor of mob grinding – Town Quests provide more efficient EXP and Codex gains
  • Hoarding gear without checking Codex first – always register new drops
  • Forgetting Feats – they scale up and give major Codex/stat value over time
  • Burning all dungeon runs at once – plan them around drop events or enhancement needs
  • Don’t over-enhance early gear – focus on Codex unlocking and stable Rare sets.
  • Save high enhancement materials for gear you plan to keep long-term.
  • Always preview gear upgrade paths in the crafting menu before using rare resources.

Use set effect pieces (when available) to unlock bonus damage, crit, or PvP defense.
