Runes Guide for New Players
By
Runes can feel overwhelming for beginners. But don’t worry, I’ll break it down for you step by step.
Keep in mind that this is only for introduction about the Rune. If you want to get advance guide, please check this Hero Rune and Substat Optimization.
Let’s explore what Runes are!
Rune Quality
There are 5 different qualities of runes:
- Common (Green)
- Uncommon (Blue)
- Rare (Purple)
- Epic (Golden)
- Legendary (Red)
Higher quality runes provide better attribute buffs (e.g. ATK, HP).
Beginners should collect as many runes as possible regardless of quality. However, as you progress, dismantle Rare quality and below, keeping only Epic and Legendary runes.
Rune Types
Runes are divided into 4 types: Protection (increases Dodge), DPS(increases Attack), Survival (Increases Healing), and Reflect (Increases Reflect rate).
Faction Synergy
Each rune type belongs to one of 5 factions: Empire, Woodland, Eclipse, Divine, and Demon
Combining the 4 rune types and 5 factions results in 20 different rune combinations.
Which Type of Rune Should You Choose?
There’s no simple answer, but here are general guidelines:
- DPS Heroes: Choose DPS Runes for PvE content.
- For PVP: Choose Survival Runes (Dodge).
- Doomsayers Heroes: Opt for Reflect Runes for better synergy.
Rune effects
Counter Skill
Equipping 4 runes of Rare or higher quality will activate the counter skill of the hero. Detail of the counter skill can be found in Character rune section
Set Effects
- 2-set of the same type grants 1 rune effect (e.g., Reflect rate +30%).
- 4-set of the same type grants an additional effect (e.g., Healing Ban for 1 random enemy).
Faction Effects
- The rune effect applies only to heroes of the same faction as the rune.
- For example, an Empire hero equipped with Empire runes will receive both attribute buffs and the rune effect.
- If the hero and rune are of different factions, only the attribute buffs will apply but rune effects won’t activate.
Rune set combination
You can pair 2 sets of different types to get 2 different rune effects (e.g., 2 DPS + 2 Survival).
Alternatively, equip a 4-set of the same type for maximum rune effect (e.g., 4 DPS for pure damage boost).
Quality Matters
- The set effect is determined by the lowest quality rune in the set.
- Always ensure all runes in the set are of the same or higher quality to maximize benefits.
How to Obtain High-Quality Runes
Merchant Shop
- Visit the Celestial Shop section under the Merchant tab.
- Use Rune Ore earned in Celestial Trials to purchase rune chests.
Recommendation
Buy only the Epic-level rune chests. Don’t waste your resources to buy the Rare quality one.
Celestial Trials
Defeat bosses to earn higher-quality runes. However, beginners may find this difficult due to limited power.
Exclusive Rune Guide for Beginners
- Exclusive runes are advanced items that unlock powerful abilities for specific heroes.
- While they can be difficult to obtain and upgrade, understanding their mechanics is very important.
Here’s what you need to know:
What Are Exclusive Runes?
Exclusive runes are special versions of Epic and Legendary runes.
They will have an avatar of a specific hero on the rune image and activate exclusive skills when equipped in sets of 4.
- 4 Epic exclusive runes: Unlock Exclusive Skill 1
- 2 Epic + 2 Legendary exclusive runes: Unlock Exclusive Skill 2
- 4 Legendary exclusive runes: Unlock Exclusive Skill 3
To view the details of these skills:
- Go to the Rune tab in the hero’s profile.
- Click the hero’s avatar.
- Check the Exclusive Skill section and click the magnifying glass for details.
How to Obtain Exclusive Runes
Exclusive runes are rare and harder to get:
- Celestial Trials (High Levels): Rare drops from higher-level challenges.
- Celestial Shop: Exchange Red or Bronze Coins (earned from high-level Celestial Trials or events) for exclusive runes.
- Only use the red coin for divine/demon heroes. Don’t use it on any regular legendary hero
- Dismantle the epic or legendary runes. It is not recommended to dismantle the exclusive rune however with few exceptions.
Since these coins are hard to collect, follow the Rune Priority List to prioritize which heroes to equip exclusive runes.
Evolving Exclusive Runes
Beginner should skip evoling the rune because evolution requires Evolution Ores, which are rare and should be used strategically.
Overview about the evolving the exclusive runes.
Types of Evolution Ores
- D/D Evolution Ore: Used to evolve Divine and Demon Exclusive Epic Runes into Legendary.
- E/W/E Evolution Ore: Used to evolve Empire, Woodland, and Eclipse Exclusive Epic Runes into Legendary.
Each Evolution Ore is divided into 4 slots. Each slot-specific Evolution Ore can only be used to evolve the Exclusive Rune of the same slot (eg., I II III IV).
You will need 2,500 Evolution Ore of a single slot to perform one evolution.
Where to Get Evolution Ores
For Beginners: Evolution Ores are challenging to obtain early in the game.
Here are the primary ways to acquire Evolution Ores:
- Forgotten Land Challenges: There are 4 different challenge stages. Higher-level stages have a greater chance of dropping Evolution Ores.
- Event Rewards: Keep an eye on special events as they may have Evolution Ores as rewards.
