Been cookin this, lightning doesnt seem to great since there isnt a way to permacc everything on the screen for arc spam.

Guide to Lightning Sorcerer Build

By snotnosepunk

Spark Setup

  • Spark -> Unleash, Arcane Surge
  • Flame Wall -> Spell Cascade, Arcane Tempo
  • Frost Bomb -> Magnified Effect, Concentrated Effect
  • Orb of Storms -> Conduction, Persistence
  • Arctic Armor -> Don’t waste support gems on this

Early game notes

Gameplay is super simple rotation of Flame Wall, then Spark through Flame Wall. If need more damage, throw down Orb of Storms and use Orb of Storms and Frost Bomb off CD when bossing, Frost Bomb provides a surprising amount of single target damage early on, but later we will use Frost Bomb to proc Cold Exposure.

Spark will feel underwhelming in Act 2/3 if you do not craft during your campaign. Look for +()Levels to Lightning Skills, +%Spell Damage/Lightning Damage, and Gain +% of Damage as extra Lightning Damage. These mods (Especially +()lvls) will skyrocket your DPS and make areas like The Dreadnought much easier to clear.

Sorceress is very squishy, and with our damage-based pathing early, it is crucial to play safe from a distance, manage your flasks, learn to be comfortable with rolling, and don’t worry about dying too much, this build can die lot but we solve this later on via Max Life, %Cap Res, and most importantly, Energy Shield.

Goals

Path to Snowflake Nodes, pick up stats/dmg as needed / Swap to Frost when CoF is unlocked (Act 3, CoF unlocked at 31, Comet at 41).

CoF Setup

  • Frost Bolt -> Scattershot, Glaciation, Unleash
  • Cast on Freeze -> Comet, Spell Echo, Impetus
  • Frost Bomb -> Magnified Effect, Concentrated Effect, Strip Away
  • Hypothermia -> Heightened Curse, Expanse, Focused Curse
  • Frost Wall -> Controlled Destruction, Ingenuity, Icicle
  • Cold Snap (Optional) -> Inevitable Critical, Hourglass
  • Comet (Optional) -> Cold Penetration, Spell Cascade, Arcane Tempo

Notes

You can swap to a simple Frost Bolt/Cold Snap setup earlier (around mid/late Act 2) with manually casting Cold Snap to proc the bolt projectiles.

Only do this swap if over leveled and/or holding onto a solid +()Levels to Cold Skills Wand/Staff, as we cannot rely on perma-freezing bosses until we have more %Increase from the passive tree.

Focus on building Energy Shield/Max Life after you get enough DPS to feel content, as DPS is easy to acquire within the passive tree, but defense is scarce. I started building Energy Shield in the passive tree as soon as I reached Act 4, as I felt my damage would sustain for a while without requiring upgrades. Find your balance and adapt/adjust when necessary, don’t blindly follow this build guide as you may require different tools at different moments.

Mana is usually always an issue with this build, but never a nuisance. If you manage your mana flask well, clearing with 600-800 Max Mana is more than feasible for the whole campaign, but eventually we will start to look for Max Mana (Around Act 5/6) on some items, as well as building some Mana Regen % in the passive tree. My advice for managing Mana is that Frost Bolt travels very slowly, far, and spreads out over time. Use this to line up hitting multiple groups of enemies with 1 or 2 casts of Frost Bolt, rather than spamming projectiles at anything that moves, as it is your primary spell for triggering Comet, and Comet is what really drains our Mana. You can even walk ahead of a traveling Frost Bolt to pull another group of enemies into it, triggering even more Comets for less Mana investment.

Random POE2 Tips (All Classes and Builds)

The most important stat in POE2 is unironically Movement Speed% on your boots. I cannot stress how much more fun the game becomes even with a small 15% MS Increase, and you are going to want to make sure you ALWAYS have MS as you level, so make sure you routinely craft higher and higher MS%s on Magic Boots.

Flasks are super easy to upgrade, just look out for Magic Flasks dropping that correspond to what you need (Tier Wise) and always prioritize the Gain X Charges per Second Stat on both flasks, as bosses are beefy and a lot of builds, including this one, can sometimes become stuck with no mana, no flask charge, and a boss with 25%+ HP left.

Utilize the free Portal Scroll button, don’t be stingy and routinely pick up loot even if it isn’t a Rare, as you can land some insane rolls off the ground, or at worst, get some free currency and gold from those drops.
