In this game, shelter is a off-combat feature that is crucial for game progression. It does not unlock immediately. The common question will be, what should I upgrade first.

Here’s the list of materials needed for almost every building upgrade.

With the new update increasing the number of iron ore and oak timber that can be bought, shelter requiring green materials are easier to upgrade now. But it is only advisable to buy these for green mat upgrades. Better leave blue mat upgrades with dispatch and farming and use the ether elsewhere.

Buy the building material chest first as it has chances of getting a higher tier material

1 purple = 5 blue = 25 green

Important notes

Research Table is not in the list because it should be your #1 priority in upgrading, even higher than the list above. It is the cheapest but restriction is the long time gating the next upgrade.
Wardrobe is a utility upgrade, for better QoL. Totally not needed, but your choice
Well and Fountain is by far the worst cost-to-benefit upgrade, too much materials for too little increase in AL/min. Upgrade as you like
