How to Enable Recording on Steam
Steam has a new feature that lets you record gameplay clips of any game you play on the Steam client.
You can also record your whole gaming session. You can edit and share the clips too. Here’s how to enable recording on Steam:
First, enable Steam Beta:
- Open Steam.
- Go to Steam > Settings in the top-left menu.
- Go to the Interface tab in the Settings window.
- Choose Steam Beta Update or Steam Families Beta from the Client Beta Participation menu.
Next, activate the Record feature:
- Go to the Game Recording tab in the Settings window.
- Choose either Record in background or Record on Demand.
- Record in background saves your whole gaming session from when you start the game.
- Record on Demand only starts saving when you tell it to, and you have to stop it yourself.
I like Record on Demand better for a few reasons. Don’t forget to let your Steam client update, or the new feature might not show up for you.
Customize your Record experience
Here’s how to customize your Record experience.
First, choose which key to start and stop recording with Record on Demand.
Next, choose your recording quality, where to save your raw videos on your hard drive, and if you want to include your own voice or audio from a different source in your clips.
To upload your gameplay clips, you can do it right after recording or later. While playing, open the Steam overlay. There’s a new icon for Game Recording. Clicking it shows the shortcut key to start and stop recording, which is CTRL+F11 by default. Press CTRL+F11 to start recording, and press it again to stop.
You can check your uploaded clips in the Steam overlay too.
To view your recorded clips, go to View > Recordings & Screenshots in the Steam client. You can see your clips there. You can also find them on the Steam library page of the game you recorded the clip from.
I hope you found this useful!
