Hotkeys Guide: Stop Torturing Yourself
By Al1ve.
Sounds insane to me how my friends and many good Stellaris players refuse to use basic hotkeys in a strategy game and are instead clicking like they’re on coke playing cookie clicker (and missing many times on small Stellaris buttons, I know I do), further developing the wrist problems every gamer is prone to have.
So save yourself some time and wrist health by using the KEYBOARD (crazy, I know). I guarantee your experience with the game will be improved as you’ll transform into a Stellaris Mozart.
Yes, hotkeys can’t be rebound via settings but imo PDX did a good job on making them usable. So, use them, goddamit!
The Hottest Hotkeys
If you don’t use them and you have over 100 hours in the game, you should be ashamed of yourself:
- Space – You know this one.
- E – You know this one too (M also works).
- Shift + Left / Right Mouse Click – Select multiple fleets, queue multiple commands.
- Shift + ↑ / ↓ – Speed up / Slow down the game (Yes, arrows are awkward).
- G – Group selected fleets.
- Esc – Close the current window (doesn’t make a decision when dismissing an event).
- Enter – Dismiss a popup window (careful with events since Enter always selects the first option).
- TAB (Planet Select) – Quickly cycle through planets.
TAB tech – Press 1 to select your Homeworld and press TAB repeatedly to cycle planets without clicking the map or outliner (Yes, Control Groups exist in Stellaris, we’ll talk about them later).
- Z, X, C, V (Planet/Starbase/Gov/Diplo/View) – Cycle through menus.
- B (District Select) – Build selected district without having to click on the picture.
- F – Search.
- F2 – Government.
- F3 – Traditions.
- F4 – Technology.
- Ctrl + Q/W/E – Cycle through outliner menus.
- Q – Go to selected entity.
For the love of god, learn them to improve your experience.
