Sun Haven – How to Recover a Backup Save

Recovering a Backup Save

  • Your name when you create a character will be your save name. If you have created another character with the same name, that save will be named “name1” incrementing up 1 each time you create another character with that same name.
  • Your save file’s name will be exactly the same as the backup save file name.
  • A backup save is created in the Backups folder when you sleep, and overwritten each time you sleep. You won’t have a backup if you haven’t slept yet.

How to locate your saves and backup saves

Saves are located in the following folder:

C:\Users\YourComputerUsernameHere\AppData\LocalLow\Pixel Sprout Studios\Sun Haven\Saves

How to get to the AppData folder

Your AppData folder is hidden by Windows by default. In order to make it not hidden, you need to change your folder options settings in Windows.

To do this, open your Windows Explorer (by opening any folder, or opening “This PC”) and click the view button on the top left.

Then, check the box next to “Hidden Items”. This will show folders that Windows hides by default.

You should now be able to navigate to the AppData folder.

There is also an alternative method of finding your AppData at the bottom of this doc if you have trouble finding it with this method.

Before reverting to a backup save, you should first make a backup your primary save in case something goes wrong.

How to make a backup of your save

To do this, find the save named after the character name of the save you want to backup.

Copy the save you want to backup, and go to another folder where you want to store the backup, and paste it there. It could be your C:\ Drive, your desktop, or wherever you want. In this example, I’ll use the My Documents folder.

It should look like this when you are done.

  • Now that we have a backup, navigate back to the saves folder and enter the Backups folder.
  • Copy the backup save with the same name as your primary save.
  • Go back up a folder to the Saves folder and paste the backup. Make sure to overwrite the primary save.
  • You should be on your backup save now. If something goes wrong and you want to revert this, find the save file we made a backup of earlier, copy it, and paste it into your Saves folder.

I hope this was helpful to you!
