The Battle Cats – Guide to the Proving Grounds: Third Stage

The Proving Grounds: Third Stage

Test Lineup

Cannon: Normal

Talented units:

  • Catasaurus (Lv5 Critical, Lv10 Cost Down)
  • Housewife Cat (Lv10 Savage Blow)
  • Pizza Cat (Lv10 Wave Attack)

Unit explanations:

  • Eraser Cat + Manic Eraser Cat: Standard meatshields. Lv34 Manic Eraser can survive one hit from Sir Metal Seal in stage 5B, which is important for consistency.
  • Ramen Cat: Tanky anti-Angel meatshield, used in stages 4A and 4B.
  • Catasaurus + Waitress Cat: Stackable and reliable critters, used in stages 1 and 5B.
  • Housewife Cat: Stackable LD attacker with decent piercing range to hit through multi-layered enemy frontlines as well as to snipe shorter-ranged backliners, and a reliable Zombie Killer in stages 2B and 5A.
  • Pizza Cat: Cost-efficient midranger with powerful Lv2 Wave attacks, and an excellent anti-Black attacker in stages 1, 2A and 5A.
  • Cyberpunk Cat: Super long-ranged, universal CC unit who minimizes the enemies’ pushing power and outranges all appearing backliner enemies from afar, which is great for killing them faster.
  • Awakened Mina: LD attacker with decent DPS and very good piercing range.
  • Awakened Bahamut Cat: Extremely powerful, near-universally usable melee rusher.

Details:

  • 600% ItF Crystals and 1500% CotC Crystals are required due to the presence of buffed Aliens in stages 3A, 3B and 5B.
  • Alternative Cannon choices:
    • Thunderbolt can be used to briefly stop enemies from pushing and potentially create openings for A. Bahamut. This allows him to more easily rush down the many backliners that are found here.
    • Holy Blast can be used to cancel Zombie burrows for free in stages 2B and 5A.
    • Breakerblast can be used to push back groups of enemies further away than with the normal Cannon in a pinch. If high-leveled, it can even hit enemy backliners.
  • Cyberpunk Cat’s Slow Talent is helpful, but not necessary.
  • Having 2 critters, or one critter + one anti-Metal CC unit in the lineup is important for consistency in stage 5B.
  • At Lv40, Waitress Cat’s True Form (Soba Cat) can instantly knock back Sir Metal Seal in stage 5B. This makes the stage more consistent, but isn’t required.

Strategy for Every Stage

Stage 1 – First Round (Deadly)

At the start, spawn a Manic Eraser to trigger the initial Zory’s burrow far away from your base, then kill him with Housewife and Pizza. The General GreGories are extremely weak with 1500% CotC Crystals, and the boss fight is very straightforward. Housewife, Pizza and A. Bahamut can deal with the Gories easily, while Catasaurus and Waitress can kill the Super Metal Hippoe very quickly.

Manic Eraser, Catasaurus, Housewife, and Pizza still work at Lv30 and without Talents.

Stage 2A – 2nd Round: Dawn (Deadly)

Upon hitting the enemy base, Le’Noir spawns as boss, supported by a Tackey, a Two Can and 3 Dark Otters. Do not spam any meatshields – this is to prevent the Two Can from landing any Wave attacks, which allows Housewife, Pizza and A. Bahamut to hit him safely. Tackey is then easily killed by them as well. After that, slowly kill the Le’Noir with Pizza, Cyberpunk and A. Bahamut.

Manic Eraser and Pizza still work at Lv30.

Stage 2B – 2nd Round: Dusk (Deadly)

This stage rushes you with 2 Cadaver Bears and 3 Zir Zeals. However, you can cheese it:

  1. Once the battle begins, spawn 4 Manic Erasers followed by Housewife, then one more Manic Eraser. (Explanation: The first batch of M. Erasers triggers the burrows of the first Zoge and the first Zir Zeal, and stalls the Coffin Zoges while the first Zoge burrows out of the ground. Then, the additional delayed M. Eraser ensures that you can keep the Zoge away from Housewife, allowing her to kill him safely.)
  2. Spawn A. Bahamut as soon as possible to kill the first Zir Zeal, after which he will rush behind its corpse and help Housewife kill the peons in front of the enemy base.
  3. Meanwhile, the first Cadaver Bear will have spawned and burrowed towards your base, and the first Zir Zeal will have revived shortly after. Simply stall and attack them with Housewife and A. Mina to keep them away, until the enemy base is destroyed.

Manic Eraser and Housewife still work at Lv30 and without Talents.

Stage 3A – 3rd Round: Dawn (Deadly)

This stage rushes you with a swarm of Imperator Saels and Scissoroos, who serve as support for Galactic Overseer Nyandam and 2 Elder Sloths. Housewife, Pizza and Cyberpunk can deal with the enemy frontliners very well, while A. Mina is able to snipe both the Elder Sloths and Nyandam. Since the Scissoroos are still able to push up, it’s helpful to gain more space at the start by using A. Bahamut to rush the first Scissoroo, who will then also chip away at Nyandam and the first Elder Sloth.

Manic Eraser and Pizza still work at Lv30. Cyberpunk’s Slow Talent helps lower the enemies’ pushing power further, but is not required.

Stage 3B – 3rd Round: Dusk (Deadly)

This stage is very easy with 1500% CotC Crystals. For a reliable speedrun, spawn Pizza as soon as possible, followed by A. Bahamut.

Pizza still works at Lv30 and without Talents.

Stage 4A – 4th Round: Dawn (Merciless)

Upon hitting the enemy base, Boraphim spawns as boss, supported by a Chickful A and a Professor A. as backliners. Stacking 4-5 Cyberpunks to perma-slow the Boraphim is crucial in order to keep him away from your LD/Wave attackers, so they can safely snipe the two backliners behind him.

A high-leveled Ramen is very important to stall the Boraphim well enough, since Chickful A and Professor A. constantly chip away large amounts of his health.

Pizza still works at Lv30. Cyberpunk’s Slow Talent is very useful, as with it, you only have to stack 2 Cyberpunks to perma-slow Boraphim.

Stage 4B – 4th Round: Dusk (Merciless)

Upon hitting the enemy base, Cala Maria spawns as boss, supported by some Li’l Bun Buns. However, they respawn quite slowly, which leaves Cala Maria easy to rush down with Housewife, Pizza and A. Bahamut. Using Ramen as a third meatshield is very helpful since it protects your attackers from her extremely strong, but single-target multihit attacks.

Ramen, Housewife, and Pizza still work at Lv30 and without Talents.

Stage 5A – Last Round: Dawn (Merciless)

This stage rushes you with 3 Ragin’ Gories and 2 Zang Roos in total, who serve as support for Director Kurosawah. Pizza destroys the Ragin’ Gories, Housewife can potentially land Zombie Kills on the Zang Roos, and A. Bahamut helps kill the Zang Roos faster as well. Just make sure to time Cannon to interrupt the second Zang Roo’s burrow. If you miss the Z-Kill on the first Roo, spawn A. Mina as an additional attacker after it revives, so you can better deal with both Roos at once.

Despite the stage being simple in execution, a high-leveled Pizza is important to kill the Ragin’ Gories faster, as they can push very hard together with the Zang Roos.

Stage 5B – Last Round: Dusk (Merciless)

Upon hitting the enemy base, Cli-One spawns as boss, supported by a Corporal Weyland and a Sir Metal Seal, with 5 Metal Doges and infinite Shibalien Elites as peons. With the limited space to include critters and anti-Metal CC units in the lineup, the most consistent strategy is to stack Waitresses on the initial peons. This way, you can deal huge damage to the Metal Seal very early, potentially even killing him.

Spamming Catasaurus, Housewife and Pizza alongside Waitress is very important – not only to clear the peons which can get in the way of Waitress’ single-target attacks, but also to kill both the Weyland and Metal Seal as fast as possible. After that, slowly take Cli-One down with Cyberpunk and A. Bahamut, while using Housewife and Pizza to deal with the remaining Shibalien Elites.

At first glance, Cyberpunk seems useless here. However, after the Metal Seal pushes into his blindspot, he is able to snipe the Weyland at the back. This is good for both extra chip damage and to lower Weyland’s pushing power, as his Warp can be annoying to deal with.

Manic Eraser should be at Lv34 to survive one hit from the Metal Seal, making him easier to stall. Furthermore, a high-leveled Catasaurus with Critical Talent is important to kill him quickly as well. Lastly, a high-leveled Pizza helps kill the peons faster to let Catasaurus and Waitress hit the Metal Seal more easily, and is very important to kill Weyland as fast as possible with his powerful Wave attacks.
