Rations Guide
By Indoril Mora.
To my knowledge there are 10 types of rations you can take with you as travel food when exploring Moria, I’m listing them all and providing recipes and my advice which ones to focus and take on your journeys.
Firstly, your Dwarf needs food, travel rations help them through difficult sections of mines where there is nothing to eat besides spiders and bats or stinky orcs. Make sure to carry a bit with you to avoid Starving debuff.
Secondly, you can find rations also while exploring in certain barrels, crates in ruined buildings, I’ve found Cram, Lembas, Biltongs and possibly some others
Thirdly, rations can not only cure your Dwarf’s hunger but also give them health, the number of times I’ve saved my Dwarf after contacting deadly amounts of Poison or Shadow debuffs is a lot greater than 0
Here’s a list of rations you can make in loose order of difficulty and progression of your journey.
Rations Created in Oven:
- Biltong (Simple ration) -> requires Meat(3)
- Dried Fruit (Reasonable ration) -> Grabapple(3)
- Beorn’s Honey Cake (Reasonable ration) -> Khuzdul Oat(3) + Honey
- Salted Meat (Reasonable ration) -> Meat(3) + Salt(2)
- Cram (Complex ration) -> Khuzdul Oat(3) + Cranberries(1) +Fennel(1)
- Pasties (Complex ration) -> Meat(2)+ Sunion(1) + Dough(1)**
- Lembas (Complex ration) -> Aule Bloom (3) + Khuzdul Oat (3) + Elbereth’s Blessing (1)
- Journey Bread (Complex ration) -> Milled Oats(1)* + Oat’s Milk(1)* + Grabapple (2) + Annuminas Spice (1)
- Cookies (Complex ration) -> Cranberries (1) + Milled Oats (1)* + Dough(1)**
Rations Created in Stove (Unlocked Later than Oven):
- Cheese (Reasonable ration) -> Oat Milk(1)*
I’ve used * for resources that require creation from Khuzdul Oat
Note: Given the scarcity and difficulty of components I would advise making Biltongs when starting out as a new Dwarf and Cheese when you have Khuzdul Oat farms up… if you want a sustainable Dwarf Colony in Moria of course.
