VA-11 Hall-A: Cyberpunk Bartender Action – Things You Didn’t Know

Things You Didn’t Know (Maybe)

Game Overs

Multiple game overs exist, with specific ones triggering on certain days (such as Day 2). The game overs are triggered by 3 wrong drinks in a row that also class as “Simple” in the Calicomp, such as a Sugar Rush.

Test Script

In the game’s scripts directory, a file called “testroom.txt” can be modified to create custom instances and scenarios between characters, or even make memes as seen above. Using the game’s other script files as a reference, this becomes quite easy.

To make use of this script, open a save file, set the 3rd line to “-1” and 5th line to “1” via a text editor, then load the save in-game.

Distracted Dialogue

On certain days, failing to meet the day’s requirement for Jill (Shining Finger subscription, Jill’s rent, Jill’s desired item before work on Day 10, etc.) can lead to rare dialogue when the Calicomp menu is brought up, as seen above.

Epilepsy Risk

On Day 11, the sequence of Alma hacking the bar causes multiple flashing images to show up unprompted. This can easily cause epileptic attacks in people playing the game, including those watching said gameplay.

Thankfully, a mod exists to remove the epilepsy-inducing sprites for this section, thus making the game safe for people at risk.

Day 6’s Secret Message

If you have a save set to Day 6 and change the room value via a text editor to “apt”, loading that save triggers this hidden message from Sukeban, along with special dialogue from Jill and “Fore”.

Modding

Modding VA-11 Hall-A is possible thanks to an unofficial modding guide made a while ago by the same people who created the VA-11 Hall-nyA mod.

Modding the game allows you to do anything with it, from creating completely custom scenarios with custom sprites, music, and so on (as seen below).

Extra Chapters

In the main menu, there are 3 extra chapters located in the top left via a small + button.

“Prologue” and “Demo” happen before the main game chronologically, while Start happens after the end of the main game. The first 2 are unlocked by default; Start is unlocked after beating the game and the previous extra chapters.

Start has a secret extended ending as well, which can be accessed by exhausting all of its dialogue options. This features special art of Anna.

I hope the above information was helpful.
