Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord – Beginners Tips

Useful Tips and Tricks

Settings

Change these options:

  • “Starting attribute points”: Pick Random Roll. This lets you try again for up to 29 points.
  • “Character Recruiting”: Turn it off. You can make your own characters instead.

Party Setup

A good team has 2 fighters and a priest in front, with 2 mages and a thief in back. You can try other setups if you want.

Thieves are mainly useful for opening chests and becoming ninjas later. Mages start weak but get stronger. They have a sleep spell that helps early on. Later, they get spells that can defeat many enemies at once.

Characters lose some energy when they rest, but it’s not a big problem. You can bring back defeated characters with a priest spell or by paying at a temple.

When you make characters, you choose if they’re good or evil. This affects what they can become later. Good and evil characters can’t be in the same group.

It’s helpful to increase a character’s agility.

Maze Tips

The map shows what you see, but it can be wrong because of hidden teleporters and spinners. A spell called DUMAPIC fixes the map. The game saves your map progress.

If all your characters are defeated in the dungeon, they stay there. You can get them back by going to that spot and using the rest command. But you need empty spots in your group to bring them out.

I hope this was helpful to you!
