The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria – Base Building Tips (Campaign Mode)

Newbies Tips to Base Building in Campaign Mode

By alaskankare

Collect as much rock/stone and anything else as you go.

Whatever base you choose, place a wall of barriers or a secondary wall outside the main inner walled off space. double them up when possible.

Сhoices of bases below:

  • Make use of old bases with items already in place to re-build, i.e. Ori’s base. These bases will always have a locked chest you need to forge a key for. (helps distinguish from other old buildings) they have the biggest prebuilt space usually along with rebuildable items. a good size and strong base with room to store supplies.
  • If you prefer and old building, be sure to use your hammer to repair the lower floors (you can make it soon after smelting your first iron ingot in the furnance) you want these at 100% to hold off attacks. picking one in a good secure location is key since barrier outer walls will be difficult early on with limited supplies. but the asthetics of these buildings cannot be beat.
  • If you choose to make your own, double up lower walls and use columns at the corners for upper floor supports. this takes the most stone. and most time to build from stratch, but it’ll be done YOUR way.

Repair, repair, repair

Build that repair smithy to fix and upkeep tools. use your repair hammer to repair walls and structures after attacks.

Build stairs on the inside to the top of your outer wall so you dont exit thru the front door during fights, possibly letting enemies inside (an elevated platform can be used to cause bats to spawn too for a much needed guano resource).

Make sure there are no gaps between walls and structures/terrain and your walls are TOUCHING the floor. if there is any gap or light shining through I have had enemies pop inside my camp before.

Update for 1.4 version

Do not put a hearth down amongst your food resources beginners! The zone for the hearths that keep patrols from spawning, and now trees from regrowing, now removes food resources as well. Be sure if you build in an area because of food resources (still my suggestion) build far enough away to not kill them too. I filed a bug report because I hope that it is.
